The annual CCIG General Assembly took place on Monday, June 10, 2024. At the meeting, CCIG members gathered to review the progress made in 2023 and discuss plans for the following year.
2023 marked the first year of the new CCIG 2023-2027 Strategic Plan. Among the major accomplishments of the year highlighted during the meeting were the continuation of UPR Platform activities, the provision of online and in-person training sessions, including several to local actors in Bangladesh and Nigeria, and the expansion of the CCIG website to make more training and sensitization materials available to civil society actors.
Plans outlined for 2024 include holding UPR plenary meetings as well as the repetition of sessions on UN mechanisms for human rights with partner and member organizations. Another major goal for the year is to increase fundraising efforts to expand the budget and capacity of the secretariat.
During the General Assembly, members were happy to welcome three new individual members, Stefan Gigacz, Markus Heinze, and Anna Biondi. Markus Heinze will serve as treasurer and Anna Biondi as a board member. The meeting provided an opportunity for members to come together to celebrate a productive past year, and CCIG looks forward to continuing its mission to support NGO participation in the UN system for human rights throughout the next year and beyond.
