On Monday, June 15th, in partnership with the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd and the Good Shepherd International Foundation (GSIF), the CCIG facilitated an operational meeting with Nepali civil society actors to assist them with the preparation of an oral statement to be delivered at the 62nd session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC).
The meeting began with an explanation of the Item 6 Adoption of UPR outcomes, which will take place during the HRC, serving to formally adopt the UPR recommendations addressed to Nepal during its last UPR session held in January 2026. In preparation for the UPR session, the above organizations, together with IIMA and VIDES International, had presented a UPR submission and advocated for the inclusion of specific recommendations to address human trafficking, unsafe migration practices, and child labor in Nepal. Now that the Nepali government has clarified its position on the UPR recommendations received, civil society actors have the opportunity to present an oral statement to push for action on these priority issues.
In its efforts to empower local actors and maximize the impact of their intervention in the HRC, CCIG offered some practical insights, through concrete examples, on how to produce their oral statement to effectively call the attention of the international community and their own government on the rights of girls in Nepal. In addition, partners received step-by-step guidance to ensure compliance with deadlines and a smooth submission process.
CCIG looks forward to continuing this collaboration in the framework of the HRC62 session.
